Since the Prodigal son didn't really happen, is Jesus a liar?

I think the greater problem you're missing out on is this: if Genesis is symbolic or parable, then how can all of humanity be condemned to an eternity of torture for a SYMBOLIC sin committed by a couple of FICTIONAL characters; and why would Jesus need to die for real in order to atone for it?
