Wouldn't it have just been better to end the war than having to pay a war tax and continue spending billions?

Yes, it would be better not to pay the tax... not to mention how much better it would be not to kill anybody else, not to get anymore of our servicemen & women killed or injured, and not to engage in anymore imperialist acts of aggression but evidently, we don't get to choose any of that stuff either.
